How it works
Like regular Tide, Tide with a touch of Downy contains surfactants. Surfactant molecules have two parts. One is "water loving" and the other is "water hating." The water-loving (hydrophilic) part breaks the surface tension of water. The water-hating (hydrophobic) part is attracted to oil and grease in soils, loosening and removing them from fabrics. Tide with a Touch of Downy is also formulated with special ingredients that provide softening benefits throughout the wash.

What is Tide with a touch of Downy?
Tide with a touch of Downy' is a version of Tide that gives your whole wash a great clean and goes one step further by giving you a touch of Downy for softness and freshness that starts in the wash and continues through the rinse.
How do I use this product? Is there a special order of addition?
This product can be used instead of a regular detergent. It just needs to be added in the place of your regular detergent in the wash.
Is it OK to add bleach to this?
Yes. Bleach does not affect the cleaning or softness performance.
Fabric softeners are typically added in the rinse and not in the main wash. Do I have to add some of this product in the rinse?
No. The product needs to be added only in the wash instead of a regular detergent.
What do the words 'a touch of' mean? How much is a touch of?
The best way to determine what 'a touch of' really means is to experience the product.
Can I use this product in an HE machine?
No. This product is not recommended for use in HE machines. We recommend that you use Tide HE with separate Downy in an HE washer.
Can I use this product to pretreat? Presoak?
Of course. The product can be used the same as a regular detergent for any of these purposes.
Does the product contain an oxybooster, bleach, bleach alternative?
In terms of key ingredients, Tide with a touch of Downy products use many of the same cleaning ingredients that are present in Tide with Bleach Alternative and Tide with Bleach. However, Tide with Bleach Alternative and Tide with Bleach have been formulated for even tougher cleaning and better whiteness than Tide with a touch of Downy.
